My mother recently told me she gave birth to me while focussing on a petal of a bouquet of flowers. In 2005 I graduated with an installation of tulips, laying on hospital beds sucking up coloured liquid. For this ‘Tulip Mania’ collection for Moooi, I used these French tulip petals again as a canvas. Mixing colors, creating different pigments that I ‘feed’ to the tulips, thirsty for water. Petals changing color, keeps on fascinating me. Dissecting the tulips and photographing these on a light box, revealing their coloured veins. Giving birth to these natural lucid structures.
