Studio van Keulen is a multidisciplinary art and design studio based in the Netherlands, which offers custom pattern design services, murals, fine art, unique designs and illustrations for diverse applications.
After studying Graphic Design at Sint Lucas in Boxtel and the Design Academy Eindhoven, Ivi studied fine arts at Sint Joost in ’s Hertogenbosch. This was all part of a period where she felt she had to choose between her two passions; art and design, until she realised they actually complement each other in her works.
Ivi started Studio Van Keulen in 2011 as a platform for her artistic endeavours. In the universe of Ivi van Keulen, people are central. Stillness, emotion and message come together in her figurative work and performances. To this day she continues to explore the field between art and design through her out of the box thinking and unexpected collaborations. A feeling that echoes throughout the works of the studio.
Fragments Reimagined
The process begins with Royal Delft vases from Moooi designed by Marcel Wanders that are deemed unsellable because of minor production mistakes. Instead of discarding these vases, Ivi van Keulen incorporates them into her artistic practice. She treats these "imperfect" pieces as raw materials, dismantling and reconfiguring them into entirely new artworks. These artworks carry a new narrative and aesthetic, celebrating the beauty found in imperfection.
