The Timber Tones collection by Sjoerd Vroonland for Moooi carpets is a tribute to the timeless beauty of wood and craftsmanship. Born from my lifelong passion for wood working, this extraordinary series of carpets is the result of a collaboration with FineMarq, a master in veneer crafting and marquetry. Together, we blend the essence of traditional artistry with contemporary techniques to create captivating designs that play with patterns, textures, and depth. Each design is rooted in the elegance of marquetry, reimagined through a modern lens. Intricate geometric patterns are crafted to mimic the organic flow and rhythm of wood, bending and weaving into harmonious compositions. Through cutting-edge photography and an artistic interplay of light and shadow, the designs come alive, creating a dynamic sense of depth. As if each piece transforms with every perspective, whispering a new story every time it’s seen. The Timber Tones collection goes beyond function; it is an invitation to experience art underfoot. Each pattern in this series is not simply designed but discovered. Through a meditative process of hand-drawn illustrations, surrendering to the rhythm of creation, letting the ink flow freely, unrestricted by expectations. The result is a collection that captures fleeting moments—structures that grow, expand, and evolve in their own time. Inspired by the microscopic details of nature and the vast expanse of the cosmos, these carpets hold layers of meaning, inviting the viewer to lose themselves in the intricate interplay of texture and movement. The Dreamstatic Collection was imagined as an interpretation of dreams, in a way that one could remember some details of it but never really figure out what it means. The idea revolves around a set of different patterns from various geometries that are inspired from old oriental rugs, however they reinterpretate them in a modern way while taking advantage of the high precision Moooi Carpet has from printing on the rug. Circles are circles, triangles are triangles and nothing looks “pixelized”. It therefor gives a clear image of the dream without really blurring out some details.

Remnants of our urban vernacular are often ignored or taken for granted. Our aspiration for this carpet is to recall the past, not for nostalgia’s sake, but to inform and to educate the future in the form of printed modern archaeological images that are oftentimes set aside for decay.

Dazzling Dialogues is inspired by the use of emoticons and their significant role in our daily communication through technology. They offer an enrichment in personal conversations, via a range of tone and feeling through texting that portrays specific emotions through facial gestures. At the same time, it creates an influential generalization of our versatile vocabulary, while the value of a human interaction is determined by its qualitative nuances.

In Hindu and Buddhist symbolism a mandala is a circular figure representing the universe, communicating unity and harmony to those who seek balance. Inspired, Neal Peterson creates his very own mandalas based on the look and feel of cities that hold a special place in his heart. Each design englobes its own elaborate pattern and set of colours, yet they all connect and blend into each other at a higher level.
